A Learning Curve

Cathedral Tower at night

My little room! Photo taken from my doorway.

Great Architecture!

¿Cómo estaís?

Ok, so here’s the first of two posts; I just wanted to break it up so that it wouldn’t be so overwhelming! Everyone should that I’m coming off a few days of bad luck! You probably remember that I was really excited to go on a tour of the cathedral (pictures FINALLY included). Well after power walking the 30 minute walk to meet my group at school, I arrived TWO minutes late and they had already left! I tried my best to catch up to them, but I couldn’t convince the employees to let me into the cathedral! So I fended off some gypsies who tried to reel me into their scam by calling me guapita, which means “pretty girl” more or less, and by offering me rosemary as a gift. What actually happens is when you offer to take the “gift” they grab your palm, tell your fortune and demand payment. So, as complimentary as they were, and as much as I needed aromatic herbs, I resisted and snapped a couple more photos OUTSIDE the cathedral and lamented my tardiness.

Later on, I was scheduled to meet my intercambio, which is essentially a speaking partner that the school pairs students up with, so that both English and Spanish can be practiced by either party. I embarked on the walk to find the address at which we were supposed to meet, and 35 minutes later, I was lost. In my best attempt to speak flustered Spanish on the phone with her, it was determined that I was nowhere near where I thought I was supposed to be and that we would set up another date. Great. So I backtracked the mile in the opposite direction and took the metro home.

After 5 miles of walking for the day and unfortunate navigation/time management skills on my part, I thought it was only logical to dance away my frustration at a local discoteca. That was until I went to leave and realized that my jacket had been taken from the MOUNTAIN of jackets that my friends and I had piled up in a corner. So it was a little chilly on the way home for Cait.

No worries, my bitterness has subsided and so have the calluses on my feet from all the  ground I’ve covered for being so stupid! As you can see I also come to this post bearing gifts! Enjoy!

Up next, a post about Córdoba, and more snapshots from a beautiful day in this historical little city!
